Pilot, Gunner, 6 Passengers (standard version)

Minigun: Unlimited, Missiles: 6

MV-24 VTOLs are the primary heavy air transport and combat vehicle used by the US Marine Corps and CELL throughout Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. VTOL stands for Vertical Take-Off and Landing.

Appearance Edit

VTOLs are easily distinguishable from helicopters due to their lack of rotors and their larger size. They utilize movable thrusters that are aligned vertically for take-off and landing, and align horizontally for forward movement.

Armaments Edit

Both types of VTOLs the heavy quad engined and lighter version are equipped with a 20mm M61 Vulcan turret on the front of the craft under the cockpit that is fired by the gunner, while the pilot may fire a forward machinegun and launch missiles. This is most easily seen in Crysis 2, when a Heavy VTOL strafes a Pinger at the Times Square evac site.

Usage Edit

In the singleplayer mode, VTOLs are used by the US forces to primarily transport troops, though in Ascension, the player pilots a VTOL while fighting Alien Scouts. VTOLs can only carry six missiles at a time (12 in Ascension), making them less useful for anti-armor and more useful for transport and anti-personnel uses. VTOLs also tend to be easier to pilot than helicopters.

When the player pilots one in Ascension, your damage bar will slowly regenerate.

Combat Edit

Missiles VTOLs are generally less vulnerable to missiles than helicopters, but can still be destroyed in several shots.
Tank cannons Similar to missiles, a tank's cannon will destroy a VTOL in several hits.
Gauss Rifles The Gauss Rifle is more effective against VTOL because a single shot causes approximately 16% damage.
Gunfire VTOLs are affected by any type of gunfire, although it will take a lot to bring one down.
Grenades Any type of projectile grenades will cause more damage than gunfire, though it may be difficult to score a hit and still require many hits to destroy the VTOL.
MOAR Unlike most vehicles, the MOAR is incapable of freezing the VTOL in singleplayer, although it is freezable in multiplayer mode.
