"Don't let its size deceive you, this .50 caliber pistol is definitely the kind of 'last resort' that you want to have at your disposal if you find yourself out of ammunition or fumbling around with a reload on your main weapon."
―In-game description

The Hammer is a high-caliber pistol featured in Crysis 2. It is seen in the hands of C.E.L.L. officers. The Hammer also reappears in Crysis 3 as the Hammer II.

The Hammer is similar to the Majestic, with a slightly faster rate of fire, lower damage, a few extra bullets in its magazine, and the ability to attach a silencer. The Hammer's more useful at close range than the Majestic due to its higher rate of fire, but it lacks the stopping power of the Majestic as well as the ability to attach a scope.

In Multiplayer, the player will unlock a C.E.L.L. camouflage for the Hammer after the first Reboot.

History[]

The following text is taken from Weapon Focus section of the official Crysis website (now dead):

Hammer:

The latest in high-caliber handguns, Ukrainian Lisunov Arms have unleashed a true beast with their new Hammer pistol. Designed for the heavy hitting .50 cal Compact round, the Hammer boasts unrivalled stopping power for its class, capable of piercing spider silk body armor with just a few shots.

Insufficient for military usage as a sidearm, due to its low magazine size and high recoil, the weapon is nonetheless popular with bodyguard services and other private contractors around the globe, where instant stopping power counts more than ammo capacity.

Recently, rumors emerged that mega corporation CryNet have secured a lucrative contract with Lisunov to equip their private sector C.E.L.L. security forces with Hammer pistols, despite concerns from civil rights lawyers that the weapon would be overkill in the hands of law enforcement. CryNet were unavailable for comment on the matter.[1]

Crysis 3[]

The Hammer returns in Crysis 3 as the Hammer II. The first Hammer II is given to the player by Michael Sykes at the very start of the game. It has fairly high damage out to medium range, a generous magazine capacity (9+1), comes default with the laser sight and silencer attachments unlocked, and is one of few weapons in the game that supports special ammunition and the match barrel attachment. An extremely well-rounded pistol, all things considered.

Default (.50 caliber compact) ammunition deals significant damage at short range, occasionally killing lightly armored C.E.L.L recon soldiers with single body shots, and human enemies that don't outright die often flinch, are momentarily stunned, or end up knocked around. Damage greatly suffers past medium range, more so with the silencer attached.

Special (.50 caliber explosive) ammunition dramatically increases damage, to the point you can quite easily use the hammer for long range fighting, even with the silencer attached, and the bullets also detonate with small explosions, making it pretty trivial to dispatch bunched up enemies or clearing out defensive positions.

Trivia[]

  • The Hammer's design has elements of the Beretta 92 series, and 1911 series of handguns.
  • This is the first gun you get in Crysis 3, which makes perfect narrative sense because it's Psycho's sidearm, but a more appropriate starting weapon would have been the M12 Nova.
  • The Hammer given by Psycho has a unique paintjob, and for all intents and purposes is a special variant of the pistol. It's possible to carry both Psycho's Hammer and a second Hammer.
  • In Crysis 3 Remastered, the laser sight mod is dramatically offset to the left, making accurate aimed shots with the mod equipped extremely difficult.
  • In Crysis 3 and C3R, a special unholstering animation plays the first time the player switches to the Hammer II in a mission.
  • Out of all the weapons in Crysis 3, the Hammer II has the fastest weapon draw time.
