The Gardener Theory is an idea suggested by Jacob Hargreave that the Ceph that have attacked Earth are not the military force of the Ceph, but rather gardeners, dispatched to worlds to search for natural cures to diseases from basic plant life and that they occasionally check to see the life on the planet. Hargreave also theorizes that humanity is destroying these and that the Ceph "Gardeners" wish to use our plant life and may be attacking solely to stop us.
The only time the Gardener Theory is explained is in Crysis Legion.
