Gauss Rifle

From Crysis Wiki

(Redirected from EM70 (Gauss Rifle))

The GK8 Gauss Gun is a new weapon designed by the United States. Unlike the other weapons, it fires high-density alloys like WC and DU slugs that travel at eight times the speed of sound. It is primarily used by US soldiers, although members of the KPA are seen using captured Gauss Rifles in Warhead. It appears to be a bolt-action weapon, as the player tugs on a handle that is on the right side of the weapon between shots.

[edit] Tactics

The weapon is the best long-range weapon in the game; it can kill a non-Nanosuit-equipped target (and in multiplayer, even Nanosuit-equipped targets) in one shot, no matter where you hit him . Grab it as soon as you're first given the chance on the level Onslaught (Crysis) or Adapt or Perish (Crysis Warhead). Make sure you attach a Sniper Scope; it makes picking off enemies before you infiltrate much easier. Don't worry about enemies spotting the wave pattern the gun makes when it fires; the enemy will be dead by the time it appears. Even against Nanosuit-equipped enemies, the Gauss Rifle is still very effective; four to five shots bodyshots or one headshot is needed to kill one in Normal.

It is also very effective as an anti-alien weapon; it usually takes two to three shots to down any alien (even the large flying ones) on Normal. Make sure to grab one ASAP when you enter the alien-infested part of the game.

Its only downsides are its small magazine and lack of ammo before the island freezes over. Make sure to reload before firing to a target, or else you might have an awakened enemy taking shots at you while you're trying to reload if your magazine is low. Regarding the ammo, you need to prioritize your targets so that you don't run out of ammo. Generally, you should only kill enemies in guard posts and enemies near where you wish to infiltrate. The other enemies should be taken care of with your other weapons when you get inside the enemy's base.

[edit] Advantages

The Gauss Rifle is an excellent anti-tank rifle that can disable hovercrafts, boats, lightly armoured vehicles, and heavily armoured koreans in a few shots. Its velocity is unsurpassable, hitting a target kilometers away with ease. It can also kill alien troopers in one shot and an alien scout in two shots (four in Warhead).

[edit] Disadvantages

The Gauss Rifle leaves a trail behind, which can reveal the sniper's position. It's the second rarest gun in Crysis as well as Crysis Warhead, as it's used by some U.S. Marines only (and some captured rifles are used by heavily armoured KPA in Crysis Warhead), which are rare in the game.
