The chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a domesticated fowl. As one of the most common and widespread domestic animals, and with a population of more than 24 billion in 2003, there are more chickens in the world than any other bird. Humans keep chickens primarily as a source of food, consuming both their meat and their eggs. In Crysis, they are used a lot by players in Sandbox 2 and for doing throwing or kills with it.
Chickens are about 1 foot tall and several inches long. They resemble birds, but much fatter and the inability to fly higher. These animals are harmless and can be used as weapons.
Chickens can be used as throwing weapons and can kill a normal Korean grunt with several throws in strength mode for some reason. A normal throw will either knock them down or distract them. One shot from any gun can kill a chicken.
- No matter how large you make the chickens in Sandbox 2, they still die from one shot of any weapon even though their modified size makes them tougher to bullets.
- Although not considered a glitch, if a user somehow is able to use the game without activation (e.g. via illegally downloaded cracks or patches), as a fail-safe the producers made the guns shoot chickens instead of bullets, making gameplay almost impossible. This only happens with Crysis Warhead, and later games did not use it again.
- Chickens are a recurring gag in the cinematic outtakes for Crysis, in which the Ceph aliens were replaced with giant chickens.
